Better sales with good product photos23 October 2018
Quality Manager Petra Schrikkema talks about the importance of good product photography. “If your photos are of good quality, your products are easier to sell to the large group of traders who are not present in the auction room in person.”
"Clock supply is not possible without photos, but not every photo is a good photo. On one occasion, the plant was depicted next to a garden gnome. In another picture, the grower held a white sheet behind the plant, but his fingers were still visible. This looks rather unprofessional. If everyone photographed the plants and flowers in the same way, the clock images would be more uniform and make a more professional impression."
Levy for unrepresentative photo
"Royal FloraHolland has tightened the photography guidelines because we believe it is important to ensure that the photograph accurately reflects the quality of the product supplied. Furthermore, good photos are important in the digital strategy. Digital sales are increasing, which means that good photos are becoming increasingly important. Photos have been compulsory since the beginning of this year, and for the plants we impose a levy if the photo is not representative. For the cut flowers, we will soon also impose a levy if the photo does not comply with the guidelines."
Our team gives advice
"The Inspection and Guidance Team from the Quality department gives advice to suppliers. If necessary, an employee will go to the supplier to offer help on-site. This team is composed of twenty people of which five are specialized in improving photographs. They are former inspectors, with years of experience, who know exactly how to picture the supply."
Detail photo and logo under photo
"We explain to the supplier how to take good photos with a smartphone or digital camera. They can set-up a corner in their garden in order to create the right background for this. An insert at the bottom right of the photo is added via software, consisting of a small detail picture with a close up of the flower. At the bottom left of the photograph there is room for the logo of the supplying grower."
The trade is happy
"The trade is very happy with the improved photos. They can now transfer the photos directly to their own webshop. A lot is still purchased by name, but for the customers further away, the photo is becoming increasingly important.
